WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development today launched a new campaign to increase hiring of low-income individuals and public housing residents by state and local governments that receive HUD funds. HUD is contacting more than 3,000 state and local agencies, including public housing authorities, to document their efforts to hire low-income individuals and to contract with companies who hire them. Agencies that fail to comply may be debarred, suspended, or denied participation in HUD programs.

I applied for a tax credit apartment in Los Angeles, CA. (Thomas Safron Properties). My current and anticipated income is $100 under the tax credit maximum of $33,300. But I was rejected I believe (reasons not given to me yet) because the apartment owner added $82 overtime and a $700 bonus. Both the overtime and bonus are non-recurring, temporary, sporadic income; my employer verified/stated in writing it is not “anticipated” I will receive any more overtime, bonuses or other income. I read the HUD tax credit compliance manual which states “sporadic”, temporary, and non-periodic income must be excluded from the income calculation. If I win this fight I get an apartment valued at over $1300 for $850 per month. Is this worth the fight? Who do I complain to? Thanks much.

My closing is on Tuesday(7/21) and I got a final number from HUD statement and its around 23,500 and they wanted me to get a cashier’s check in my name (payable to me)
1) Does it help taking a cashier’s check for 25,000 ,this way any final number changes I am OK ?
2) Will they give me a refund check if I give them more money in the cashier check than what is in the HUD ?
3) Or do they usually they personal checks for any difference in amount at the closing if any ? ( $100-$1500)
