HUD charges Texas landlord with housing discrimination
Thursday, October 1st, 2009WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development today announced that it is charging a Wichita Falls, Texas landlord with violating the Honest Housing Act by publishing advertisements that discriminate against families with children. HUD alleges landlord Kay Rios posted a classified ad in a local real estate publication that read “no drugs, no pets, no children.”

Sunday, August 23rd, 2009I live in an apartment above a store in a rural area and receive HUD rental help (I know a lot of people frown on this in the answers community, It’s a temporary situation I’m not uneducated or low class am currently going to get my BSN in nursing) Anyways, I was walking down the back entrance of my apartment off of the deck which has quite a large flight of stairs. On the second step from the top I suddenly realized I had fallen through the step and my leg was hanging ( I was carrying my 13 month ancient baby as well) I went to ER and they said I’m OK just a lumbar contusion. I’m worried about what will happen now. Since I receive HUD there are stipulations (like the unit must have two entryways/exits I’m worried he’s going to fix the broken step and be done but if one step went, what are the odds of something else breaking on it? What if he refuses to fix the whole deck? who can I call to inspect it? Are there any legalities? thanks for any advice, I’m really shook up!
Oh and I did call my landlord earlier but no response yet. He is very religious and I reckon busy on Sundays.
